Summer of 1958, Hamburg, Germany 17 year old catwoman" named Bianca Passarge dressed up as a cat complete with furry tail and danced on wine bottles. She practiced 8 hours a day performing ballet and once had a vivid dream in which she was a cat, dancing across bottletops. She practised for weeks, eight hours every single day, to make her dream come true, culminating in this magnificent image. (I'm afraid I can't remember any other details of the story; I do know that the man in the picture is a relation but can't recall whether he's her father or her uncle.)
The photographer is called Carlo Polito. I wish I could find more and LARGER photos from this event.
If you look at it for a while, you'll notice that the the louvred half door is painted onto the wall beneath a window and the beer barrel is painted behind a conveniently located garden tap. On the one hand this makes the image even more surreal, on the other there's something so touching about the effort this family made to create this beautiful scene as Bianca dreamed it.
