What I did not know is how deep, and how many levels Instagram utilizes to minimize bandwidth.
They do this with additional coding which among other things, keeps the browser or plug-ins
from recognizing the displayed image as a jpg file. (Which is why you can't simply right-click
to do a "save image as").
For instance, until I was forced to use Instagram and not Iconosquare did I realize that there
were originals larger than 640x640 on Instagram at all. Only the 640x640 resolution versions
were on shown on Iconosquare or Websta. Some of the originals are as big as 1080x1350.
Not AOG res, but still significantly higher resolution.
Here's the caveat though... The larger originals all have time-delay code built in. When they
hit the 49-50 week mark since being posted, they are all permanently resized to that 640x640
default. Unfortunately many spanktacular older posts, I will never be able to recover those
larger originals.
The good news - I have finally succeeded in breaking through the myriad of roadblocks that
Instagram uses, to keep people from reaching the full resolution photos that they store on
their servers. (including how to break through that 750x750 resizing).
Any re-posts I do, will be photos that are at these higher resolution sizes.
