In 1992, Moira Kelly appeared in the movie "The Cutting Edge" as the character 'Kate Moseley'. In one short scene wore a blue, black and pink spandex outfit.
Then in about 2004, she appeared briefly in a promotional video as the same character and wearing the same outfit!
So, do you think the costume department supplied the goods or did she hang onto that outfit all those years?

Re: Moira Kelly
Nice find there Jarath and a good question. I would bet she held on to the outfit, something like that would be nearly impossible to find today. Would probably have to be custom re-made. Either way, she still looks good in it.

Re: Moira Kelly
I remember seeing that movie back when it came out...hmm...I am not sure if that was one of the EXACT outfits she wore in the movie (It could have been though). Bottom line is she wore a few outfits like that when she was training (for the movie olympics, not real life). It was way back in 1992 when the 'dex was still in style....then the grunge/alternative B.S. took over virtually overnight, and that was the end of that.

In response to julie111, we still can't get rid of that grunge/alternative B.S.
You still see it on sports sidelines and the whoreporate media
still foists it down everyone's throats.
You're damned right I'd rather see women wear tights! Does anyone have a problem with that?

Re: Moira Kelly
It's an intersting topic, how the evoluton of clothes trends come and goe...everything goes in cycles. Spandex came in huge in the 80's as well all well know, but then one day some bunch of a-hole corporate suits decided that kind of style wasn't "cool" anymore, and they shoved those dicks like Curt Kobain and Eddie Vedder down our gullets and all over MTV (remember there was no internet back then), and since the grunge clothes style was all about looking dirty/grungy and wearing baggy clothes, all the kids emulated them, and within a few months spandex completely vanished off the face of the earth from about 1993 on. Of course that's a tad of an exaggeration, but for those of you who were around back then, you know what I mean. It took a FULL TEN years for the tight look to finally come back into style, I'd say I noticed it around 2002...you started seeing all those 80's retro spandex parties(even though it was meant in a mocking way), women starting wearing spandex again for athletics (as opposed to all the baggy B.S.); celebrities started wearing it again(take like Madonna for example), and you saw the explosion of Underarmor, which bacame the "staple" for all women of all ages to wear not only for sports, but it started to get to the point around 2005-2008 where it was so popular they'd wear their underarmor shirts out to bars because it was in style. Could you even imagine a chick wearing a shiny spandex shirt back in say like 1998? It would have been something out of star trek.
Unfortunately however that retro stuff would never last, as you would expect, because now we are back into the full-blown grunge baloney again...like for example, the underarmor and sports spandex stuff is like baggy now and crap again, and a bunch of wierd stuff like those "Squirrel" and quasi-atheletic suits which are sort of lame are showing up, and liquid style leggings (which is not spandex), and it's basically like 1996 all over again but a little stranger. Like go into any store and I swear, all the males look like Curt Kobain, and the females are dressed up like Courtney Love, with their dumb dirty/grunge hairstyles and baggy clothes and cotton leggings (which I never found interesting), it's like Doc Brown took us in the DeLorean back to the mid-late 90's retardsville.
But getting back to the Cutting Edge...you might be right, it could be the same suit. I didnt check that out. I saw it the move in 1992...and one other quick point, I am not a female even though my user name has a female name..just in case I've had a couple people ask me that.
Sorry for going off topic but I just thought I'd discuss it.

Re: Moira Kelly
Wow, bitter much Julie. I think you are exaggerating a bit. Leotards and leggings were still popular for fitness wear all the way until about 98.
I love grunge/alternative music. However, the styles were pretty lame. Still, I have yet to see any of it come back like you mentioned. And where I live girls often still wear spandex leggings, even just for college classes. I have even seen guys running wearing spandex running tights, and underarmor is still pretty tight from what I have seen and own. I still see your point and agree that spandex becomes more popular instead of less. I would love it to come back 100% strong.

Re: Moira Kelly
Now I cannot wait until 4k video becomes a reality. May I also add that Moira Kelly is super hot.
I was lucky enough to be a teenager during the 80s. My thing for spandex went into high gear when my first serious girlfriend had a recital in which she wore a shiny blue unitard. Nothing will EVER look as good. Cotton leggings? Whatever.
Spandex was still new in the 1980s, especially shiny nylon/lycra. I'm talking about the shiny fabric that looks like it could be painted on. The heavyweight fabric that followed was okay but wasn't as good as the painted on stuff. As with all great things they must come to an end. The fine people who figured out how to blend blend nylon with lycra also put did their magic to cotton. Yuck. Then you have coolmax, etc. I'd say that's the biggest reason. Grunge and hip hop didn't help, nor did the ever expanding waistlines. Just my thoughts.

Re: Moira Kelly
Not to beat a dead horse here, but I would like to respond mainly to fitfreak's post. Spandex was dead by about 1994. I went to college from 1992-1996 and I saw some of it in 1992-1993 (for athletic purposes) and then it died fast. Also,I have to respectfully disagree that you feel there has been no recent "comeback" of the grunge culture. C'mon man, all the music from that time and clothes styles from that time are totally back. I noticed it a couple years ago. Those dumb cotton leggings you see are the same junk that was popular around 1994. I was in college back then, and I can tell you first hand the standard outfit for college girls was a sweatshirt or a flanel shirt, cotton leggings, Doc Martin shoes or whatever the hell they called it, and a baseball hat(with pony tail hanging out the back of it). In summer, it would be a drab T-Shirt and (ugh I hate to even say this) but Jeans shorts. Yes, even I wore jeans shorts. Now, if you look at what college girls wore say 10 years later, it's super tight shirts made out of spandex, explosion of underarmor, 80's retro look etc. If you persuse a photo sharing site now these days and look at what the people are wearing, it's the same garbage from the mid 90's, the jeans shorts are back, baggy/dirty look, and look at the whole culture, Beavis and Butthead are back, Alice In Chains is back, Pearl Jam is touring again, today's teenagers are worshipping Curt Kobain again, all that vampire/goth mid-90's crap is back, how can you not notice all that? Granted, I agree spandex has not totally vanished, but it's moprhed into all sorts of wierd things like I said before, like liquid leggings and other wierd fabrics, and sorry dude, I have to disagree with you, Underarmor has changed over the last few years. They ditched the shine (we all love the shine right?), cottoned it out, then made it multi-color and changed the stitching, made it looser in general, in other words, they grunge-ized it.
I know this is a dumb topic and has nothing to do with Moira Kelly. I apologize for wasting anyone's time.
