What exactly is crossfitness?
One of the hottest trends in fitness is CrossFit, the high intensity workout regimen that started in California in 2000. CrossFit has grown to the point where there are now over 4400 CrossFit gyms (called “boxes”) worldwide and dozens more opening up every month. CrossFit has even turned into a full fledged sport, with a world championship hosted at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles every summer, prime time broadcasting on ESPN2, and a million dollars in prize money at stake.
another definition: The long answer is that CrossFit is a universally scalable strength and conditioning program designed to increase work capacity across the 10 domains of fitness (cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy). By definition, CrossFit is “constantly varied, functional movements, executed at a high intensity.” CrossFit specializes in not having a specialty in order to prepare athletes for the unknown and unknowable. It combines aspects & movements from the weightlifting, gymnastic, and endurance sport world in order to create a variety of workouts that are both physically and mentally challenging. CrossFit promotes a healthy lifestyle in the pursuit of fitness.
